There are many times when a Reiki practitioner will have to explain or even justify the existence of Reiki. Because Reiki cannot be seen, it can be difficult to understand and accept.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing modality that connects to the universal energy that is all around us. The concept of universal energy is a bit like other energy sources we have around us that we cannot see such as electricity, magnetic, heat, gravity and ultraviolet light. We might not see them but we can feel their existence and we know that they are there. For example, the pull of magnets, or seeing the product of electricity when we boil the kettle, or dropping an item that falls to the ground (gravitational energy). There are a lot of energy sources we use in our everyday lives that we might not consciously realise or notice.
There are also many different branches of Reiki that have evolved since its discovery many thousands of years ago. These include Usui Reiki, Jikiden Reiki, Karuna Reiki, Lightarian Reiki and Sekehemor Seichem Reiki. These are often considered the core Reiki types. However, you may also hear about other evolved Reiki such as Holy Fire Reiki and Angel Reiki.
Those who have experienced Reiki Healing energy, feel the positive effects on their personal healing, mental and emotional wellness and improved life qualities. There are others who are not so convinced, which is also ok. Reiki isn't a promise to cure or fix, but it can support wellbeing, healing and recovery with a holistic approach. As there are no contraindications for Reiki, anyone of any age can have Reiki therapy. It can complement the more conventional methods of medicine and health care, offering support alongside these treatments and interventions.
Reiki is a regulated complementary and holistic therapy that is supported with research (see the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council or UK Reiki Federation for more information). Studies and other information are readily available online. Reiki is also offered as a holistic therapy within the NHS to complement medical treatments, palliative care and/or mental health and wellbeing.
There will always be sceptics, believe me I've given Reiki therapy to a few. The amazing thing is, everyone has an experience. Some people fall asleep, and if that's what they need during their Reiki healing therapy, that's what they need. Some people experience beautiful colours and images whilst others feel more emotional sensations. All of these experiences are true to what the person needs. When you have a Reiki healing treatment, try to be open and allow yourself to relax and enjoy the moment of peace and tranquility. Remember that energy flows, where energy goes. Focusing our minds on positive intentions, is where our energy will flow.
Lineage is very important as it evidences the knowledge and teachings that have been passed down from Reiki Master to Student over the generations.
As new styles of Reiki have been evolving over time, it is important to know that your Reiki Master Teacher has followed the ancestral path of Reiki teachings and has an unbroken lineage tracing back to Mikao Usui, Founder of Reiki. Having a complete Reiki lineage is also a requirement for verification when registering with a regulatory body. This ensures the highest standards of teaching are upheld.
I am registered with the UKRF and accredited by the CNHC. I am proud of my lineage tracing back to Mikao Usui, having been attuned through my teachings to Usui Reiki (Usui Reiki Ryoho/Usui Shiki Ryoho) which incorporates both Eastern and Western teachings. This ensures that the traditional values and methods are passed on when teaching my students.
